Rachel McAdams is 44 and loving life. The Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret star, says life only gets better as you get older. "It gets really fun the older you get. I think it gets easier. I don't know that I'd want to go back. If I could go back with the wisdom, all the wisdom I have now, sure," she says. McAdams lives a very active life and genuinely loves sports and working out—here's what she does to stay happy, healthy, and in great shape.

McAdams enjoys a very active lifestyle. "I do live an active life, and I do think that's important, as long as you're not overly stretched and stressed," she says. "In my life I try to cycle a lot and I enjoy hiking and just being on the move. I've always loved sports. I'd started figure skating when I was four years old, competing regionally until I was 18. Figure skating and living that lifestyle really taught me how to be in tune with my body and physicality. It gives you a command of your body and a confidence.

McAdams says she bikes as much as possible, and has child seats attached on her bike so the whole family can enjoy outdoor time together. She also loves hiking with her sister. "We try to do a different one each weekend," she says. "You get up here, and the sun is shining and the palm trees are swaying, and you think, You know, this really is not bad at all."

McAdams is passionate about yoga. "I'm going to sound like a typical actor, but I love, love, love yoga," she says. "That's daily for me! I love kundalini yoga. I get a lot out of doing that in the morning. It gets my mind and body in gear. That's been a fixture in my life for a number of years now. When I want to break a sweat I'm also into high- intensity interval training. I really enjoy it."

McAdams tried being a vegetarian once but admits she didn't have the healthiest approach. "I was one once, but it made me very tired," she says. "I just ate pasta – I was the most unhealthy vegetarian ever! I'd like to try it again now that I know about quinoa and bulgur. McAdams makes a point of including healthy protein and fat in every meal. "I've always had a healthy diet and I like to learn about new things and try out new things. I think I spend most of my money on good food," she says. "I eat in moderation, and I'm mindful of my diet. I try to make sure that a protein and fat is in every meal. I eat organic and I eat a lot of greens and seeds. I've always been conscious of what I put in my body and I'm finding it so much easier now to eat healthily on the go. I think there are a lot more tasty options."

McAdams loves Italian cuisine. "I love all Italian food, pasta, pizza, panini, but risotto is one of my favorites," she says. "I learned to make it from a friend from Florence. Cooking for me is like a meditation, I love to be able to feed and nourish other people, breaking bread together. For Italian people it is important to sit at the table and share the meal with family and friends, you like your wine but never drink it on an empty stomach, you feed body, mind and spirit."

McAdams believes a healthy body looks different for everyone. "I've had two children. This is my body, and I think that's so important to reflect back out to the world," she says. "It's OK to look your best and work at it and be healthy, but that's different for everyone."
