A strong personality in the National Football League (NFL), Mohamed Sanu is known for his outstanding exploits. Prior to his days with the Falcons, The wide receiver blazed for the Cincinnati Bengals, the side that selected him in the 2012 NFL draft. Before joining the football league, Sanu proved himself to be a fine footballer. He played for the Scarlet Knights of Rutgers University and was a quarterback for the South Brunswick High School football team.

Before Joining the NFL

Settling in the US, he enrolled at South Brunswick High School where he recorded outstanding exploits with the school’s football team. After high school, Mohamed proceeded to Rutgers University and became the first freshman to play under Greg Schiano. It was indeed a year to remember as the wide receiver recorded 51 receptions for 639 yards and three touchdowns and also earned the Most Valuable Player honors at the 2009 St. Petersburg Bowl. 

It got even better in the following years, as he further broke records, catching 210 passes for 2,263 yards and 19 touchdowns, and gained 3,019 all-purpose yards. He also completed eight of 18 passes for 207 yards and four touchdowns.

Exploring Mohamed Sanu’s NFL Contracts 

In a bid to become a professional football player, Mohamed Sanu joined the 2012 NFL draft. He was selected in the 3rd round of the draft by the Cincinnati Bengals; his contract with the football outfit was for four years and it was set at $2.71 million. To incentivize his decision the Bengals added $563,252 as a signing bonus to his contract.

The 2012 season was not Mohamed’s best with the team as he suffered a stress fracture and needed medical attention to properly heal. But in the following season, he recorded 47 receptions, 455 yards, and 2 touchdowns in a total of 16 games. In the 2015 season, he recorded 33 receptions for 394 yards with the team. After four seasons with the Bengals, Sanu left the Queen City to another team.   

The next team Sanu played for was the Atlanta Falcons, he joined the team in 2016, and on the 10th of March that year he signed a $35.6 million contract with them that is to last for 5 years. This was a much larger and longer contract than the first one he signed with the Bengals.

After the 2019 season, Sanu joined the New England Patriots on trade. He was to be exchanged for a second-round pick in 2020’s draft. The 2019 season saw him record 26 receptions, 207 receiving yards, and one touchdown.

Inside His Humble Family Life

Indeed his affinity for sports is something he got from his father and uncle; the brothers were part of their native country’s football team, Leone Stars of Sierra Leone. Sanu grew up in the Muslim faith and still abides by the tenets of the religion. 

The wide receiver was born on the 22nd of August, 1989 to Samuel Sanu and Aminata Koroma, and is one of the three children from their union as he has a brother and a sister. Sanu’s father, Samuel is revered as one of the best midfielders who has played for the country. However, not much is known about his active days in football.

Mohamed was born in New Jersey in the city of New Brunswick and sometime in his childhood, the family relocated to Sierra Leone, the country where his parents are originally from. But as earlier mentioned, this move was for a very short while and in no time the family returned to America to stay for good. In 2017, Sanu lost his father after he suffered a heart attack.

Since he came to the limelight, there has been quite some juicy information about him when it comes to the ladies. Mohamed Sanu’s first known attempt at romance was with a woman called Lauren Hettinger, who is rumored to be an entrepreneur.

We’re not sure when the two started dating but the former Bengals player got engaged to Lauren in 2016. He had popped the question at a soccer game at the London Wembley Stadium. Lauren, a native of Ohio is also the mother of his son, Mohamed Jay Sanu, born in August 2015.

Sadly, the couple broke up in 2018 for some reasons that have not been revealed to the media. After their split, the footballer began a new relationship with Dani Lee, a woman who also runs her own business and takes pride in her multiple academic degrees. The Atlanta Falcons receiver did not hesitate to show the whole world his new girlfriend as pictures of them together started circulating in the media. Even more interesting, it was only a year before Sanu proposed to Dani. He popped the question on the 15th of June, 2019, the same day she completed her Master’s degree.

It was during a happy dinner celebration thrown for the completion of her Master’s degree that the wide receiver asked Lee to marry him. Dani’s resounding ‘yes’ to Sanu immediately turned the whole celebration into a romantic engagement party. Mohamed’s recent relationship has become everyone’s business as many are hoping he settles with his new girlfriend. The two have been together since they began dating and are having the best time of their lives. As expected, fans are hoping to hear the wedding bells this time around.
