Addison spends a lot of time being active outdoors. Skateboarding, surfing, kayaking, and hiking are just a few of the activities she engages in. "When exercising on ever-changing outdoor terrain, your body is more challenged than when it is working out on a flat indoor surface," explains ShaNay Norvell, a certified fitness instructor who leads classes at Cancer Wellness, to Piedmont. "I take many of my individual clients and classes outdoors," says Norvell. "They often tell me it doesn't feel like as much of a workout as running on the treadmill, even though they are still getting a great calorie burn."
Addison is a big fan of the buddy system when it comes to working out. Even during the pandemic, the two managed to break a sweat together virtually. "One of the best ways to stay motivated and achieve your weight-loss goals is to team up with a dependable fitness partner. Knowing that someone else is counting on you to show up can kick you into gear when you're feeling sluggish and unmotivated," says the Mayo Clinic. "A fitness buddy can also talk with you while you're exercising and make the experience more enjoyable."
In the same video, Addison shared her six-minute glute workout. "I've done this butt workout so many times because it literally burns so bad but it's so good," she told Kourtney. The set involved donkey kicks, fire hydrants and fire hydrant extensions on each leg for two circuits.
Even Addison struggles with body image issues, and has been the subject of body shaming.
"It's a really hard thing to deal with when you're a girl, especially going through your teens," she explained to Glamour U.K. "I am 20 and my body is constantly changing, but people have this high standard around body image and say, 'Oh, you have to look like this to look great or to look hot or to be cool or to be pretty.'" She added that she doesn't let it "define" her. "I am learning to love my body and who I am, for what I am," she added.
One way she maintains her mental health is regular therapy sessions, which are "really helpful just to not feel so down on myself," she told Glamour. "Self-worth is a big thing that I've been working on the past few months because it's definitely a real struggle, and it does affect you in your daily life, not having high self-worth. Therapy is a great way to work on that and it's an outlet to speak on things that are bothering you internally."
Addison revealed on social media this year that she is a fan of kickboxing, sharing a photo of herself dressed for a workout at a studio showing off UFC moves. "Exercising with others gives you a sense of camaraderie and support and may push you to perform better or at a higher intensity as you watch others challenge themselves. Remember: You can get these benefits from any type of class. Find something that appeals to you, whether it's yoga, kickboxing, Pilates or dancing," says the Mayo Clinic.
Obviously, a big part of Addison's cardio is dancing.The 20-year-old regularly shares photos and videos of herself getting down on TikTok and Instagram. "During aerobic activity, you repeatedly move large muscles in your arms, legs and hips. You'll notice your body's responses quickly," reports the Mayo Clinic. "You'll breathe faster and more deeply. This maximizes the amount of oxygen in your blood. Your heart will beat faster, which increases blood flow to your muscles and back to your lungs. Your small blood vessels (capillaries) will widen to deliver more oxygen to your muscles and carry away waste products, such as carbon dioxide and lactic acid. Your body will even release endorphins, natural painkillers that promote an increased sense of well-being."
