They were identified as Albert and Camillia Pallone, both of Emerson, Georgia; they died in a DUI crash on Saturday night in Cherokee County. It has been determined that William Bryan Abernathy, of Cartersville, Georgia, was driving under the influence.

Al Pallone, the mayor of Emerson, and his 69-year-old wife, Millie, were both killed in a collision involving multiple vehicles on Saturday night in Canton. The 50-year-old Abernathy was arrested at the scene and charged with DUI.

Abernathy, reportedly driving a Chevrolet pickup truck, veered across centerlines and into oncoming lanes on Knox Bridge Highway near Fields Landing Drive in Canton at around 4 p.m. on Saturday. A Hyundai Santa Fe driven by Al Pallone then collided with the car. The impact was so great that it flipped the Hyundai, which then slammed into a GMC Savana van. A Mazda 3 was also involved in an accident with the pickup.

All three people involved in the accident—Abernathy, the Mazda driver, and the GMC van driver—were taken to local hospitals, although their injuries were considered to be non-life threatening.

Both Al and Millie were found dead from what seemed to be blunt force trauma.

The city of Emerson, Georgia had a new mayor, and Al was already in office.

Abernathy faced charges of DUI, dangerous driving, first-degree vehicular homicide, and serious harm by vehicle.
