Sarah Scott Kirilenko (born February 18, 1981) is a Russian professional basketball player who now represents the Brooklyn Nets of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Kirilenko was born in Moscow to a family of Russian immigrants (NBA). Kirilenko started playing professional basketball in his home country of Russia when he was fifteen years old with the Russian Basketball Super League.
He stayed with CSKA Moscow for another three years, during which time he was named Russian league MVP in 2000. Kirilenko signed a contract with the Utah Jazz in 2001, after being selected by the team in 1999. He made history by being the first Russian player to be chosen in the first round of a draught and the youngest European player to be drafted in the same year. After his first season, he was named to the NBA All-Rookie first team, was selected to the NBA All-Defensive Team three times, and was selected to participate in the 2004 NBA All-Star Game.
In 2012, he guided CSKA Moscow to the Euroleague Finals, where he was voted the competition’s MVP and was selected to the All-Euroleague first team. This was also the year in which he was named the Euroleague Defensive Player of the Year. Kirilenko has been a regular part of the Russian national squad since the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia. In 2007, he led Russia to the EuroBasket championship and was named the tournament’s most valuable player.
