Officially, Anthony Mackie is a married man.

Six months ago, the Captain America actor secretly married Sheletta Chapital, his childhood sweetheart, as reported by PEOPLE.

The New York Post’s Page Six was the first to disclose that Mackie, 36, and Chapital were wed in a private ceremony in December at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.

It was quite low-key and laid-back, a source informed the media site. They were served a welcoming supper. We played golf and drank. Soon after, they took a honeymoon.

The actor’s lifelong lover and they first connected in elementary school.

On The Queen Latifah Show, Mackie described their initial encounter as “funny.” I transferred from a very poor school to one that was really good. It was Dr. Seuss Day when I entered the second grade, and the teacher was preparing green eggs and ham on the small hot plate.

I entered and turned to look when I saw the young child with the scraggly pigtails and the tiny legs, thinking, “Wow!”

Since then, the happy pair has been dating on and off, and they have remained dedicated to one another even after the birth of their son in 2009.
