Sarah Parker The Major Crash Unit of the Lubbock Police Department is looking into an accident that happened early on Sunday morning in central Lubbock and claimed the life of a 57-year-old woman Ashley Hawkins
Injuries from an accident were reported in the 2600 block of Avenue Q around 1:16 on Sunday.
Officers arrived and discovered Elizabeth Prado, 57, who was seriously hurt. Prado was taken by ambulance to University Medical Center, where she was later declared dead.
According to the opening stages of the investigation, Prado and another passenger, a 12-year-old boy, were both traveling in an SUV operated by 61-year-old Richard Trevino.
According to preliminary information, the SUV was heading south in the 2600 block of Avenue Q and getting ready to turn left when it collided with another SUV being driven by Jeremiah Uriegas, 23, who was traveling north.
The 12-year-old boy and Trevino both sustained significant wounds, although Uriegas only sustained minor wounds.
The inquiry is ongoing, and no one has been taken into custody.
