Bennie Gordon Thompson is an American politician who has served in the United States Congress since 1993, representing Mississippi’s 2nd congressional district.

Thompson, a Democrat, has chaired the House Homeland Security Committee since 2019 and previously from 2007 to 2011.

It is approximately 275 miles (443 kilometers) long, 180 miles (290 kilometers) broad, and borders the Mississippi River. The district’s significant majority is made up of the Mississippi Delta.
