Evangeline Rose Gil Eigenmann was an actress from the Philippines. For her acting abilities and contributions to Philippine cinema, she was called “La Primera Contravida.”

Cherie Gil was the daughter of singer-actors Eddie Mesa and Rosemarie Gil, as well as the sister of Michael de Mesa and Mark Gil.

Gil acquired a name in Philippine film as a “quintessential kontrabida” throughout a nearly 50-year career.

She is a FAMAS Award winner, a National Commission for Culture and the Arts Ani ng Dangal laureate, and a Metro Manila Film Festival Hall of Famer in the ‘Best Supporting Actress’ category.

She was married to musician Rony Rogoff, and the pair had two children, Bianca and Raphael. She also has a kid from a prior relationship with actor Leo Martinez, Jeremiah David (Jay).

Gil was worth 5 million as of 2022.

Gil’s funeral is yet to be held.
