Elizabeth Holmes was the CEO of Theranos, a now-defunct health-tech business.

A federal grand jury charged Holmes and Ramesh “Sunny” Balwani, the former Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Theranos, in June 2018. The defendants were charged with nine charges of wire fraud and two counts of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, involving investors and patients as victims.

Holmes was found guilty of scamming investors but not of deceiving patients at the conclusion of her trial in January 2022. She might face a sentence of up to 20 years in jail.

The date for her sentence has been scheduled for September 26, 2022.

Her father, Christian Rasmus Holmes IV was the former vice president of an energy company named Enron. The company however went bankrupt following an accounting fraud scandal.
