In a heart-wrenching incident, Dina Bourque, the dedicated principal of Iberia Middle School, lost her life in a fatal car crash early Thursday morning, as confirmed by school officials.
The unfortunate collision occurred around 6 a.m. near the junction of North Grand Prairie Road and US 90 West Frontage Road in New Iberia, leading to a “major crash” that prompted the closure of the surrounding highways, according to New Iberia Police reports.
Captain Leland K. Laseter of the New Iberia Police Department disclosed that the initial investigation indicated the driver of a tractor, transporting sugarcane-laden trailers on North Grand Prairie Road, failed to yield at a stop sign on West Frontage Road. The subsequent collision with Bourque’s vehicle resulted in her tragic death, with the incident unfolding at the intersection.
Dina Bourque, who had been at the helm of Iberia Middle School since 2016 and graduated from the University of Louisiana-Lafayette in 1996, leaves behind a void in the educational community.
