Don Browne, who led Telemundo Communications Group from 2005 to 2009, passed away on August 29 at his Miami Beach home after a long battle with a brain tumor. He was 80.

Browne was credited for directing the expansion of Telemundo’s original content generation. Under his leadership, Televisa and Telemundo formed a collaboration to provide Telemundo content to Mexico, and the firm saw record-breaking ratings.

Prior to overseeing Telemundo in Miami, Browne served as the station’s president and general manager at WTVJ-TV, an NBC affiliate. From 1991 to 1993, Browne headed NBC News in New York as executive vice president before joining WTVJ. He monitored “Today” and assisted in the beginning of “Dateline” while he was living in New York.

Christopher and Ryan, and their two grandchildren are Browne’s only surviving children. The development of television and the destiny of the City of Miramar were both predicted by Browne. He persuaded network management to make a financial commitment to a brand-new facility in the heart of “Cow Country.”
