The actress joined colleagues Debbie Allen, Krista Vernoff and Chandra Wilson for a Variety cover interview and, of course, Grey’s Anatomy just had to be one of the topics! That being said, Ellen Pompeo suggested that the long-running medical show might just come to an end sooner than many might expect!

As you may know, Grey’s Anatomy has been on air for no less than 16 seasons, season 17 just weeks away!

Fans might be shocked and saddened to hear, however, that this one might actually be the last in the series!

During the interview, the stars discussed the show’s legacy as well as what those tuning in might expect from the upcoming new season.

And since Pompeo has actually teased the end of Grey’s Anatomy is near before, season 17 might really be the end of the line!

But while saying goodbye would be really hard for fans, the same can be said about the actress herself, since she’s been portraying Meredith Grey for such a long time!

‘We don’t know when the show’s really ending yet. But the truth is, this year could be it. I don’t take the decision lightly. We employ a lot of people and have a huge platform. And I am very grateful for it. You know, I am just weighing out creatively what we can do. I am really, really, really excited about this season. It is likely going to be one of our best seasons ever. And I know it sounds nuts to say, but it’s true,’ Pompeo stated.

Whether it’s going to be the best season yet or not, it will definitely be very interesting to see the pandemic becoming part of the plot.

‘I’ll say the pilot episode to this season—girl, hold on. What nobody thinks we can continue to do, we have done. Hold on. That’s all we’re going to say about that!’ the star excitedly teased.
