Jesse Gerhard was an American Firefighter. He also served three years as an Emergency Medical Technician.

He enrolled in the Fire Academy in December 2017, and after graduation in April 2018, he was assigned to Engine Company 264 in Far Rockaway as a firefighter.

Gerhard died on February 17 whiles recuing citizens from a fire rescue mission.

By direction of the Mayor of the City of New York, Eric Adams, all flags were lowered to half-staff in remembrance of Jesse Gerhard of Ladder Company 134.

Firefighter Gerhard is the 1,156th FDNY member to be killed in the line of duty.

The cause of his death has not been determined, although fire authorities believe it was caused by cardiac arrest.

They stated that heart attacks are the primary cause of firefighter mortality across the country. For now many still believe he collapsed due the huge flames.
