Georgia Hall is an English professional golfer. Hall competes on the Ladies European Tour and the LPGA Tour. In 2018 Hall won the Women’s British Open at Royal Lytham, it was her first victory in a major championship.

Hall started her golfing career at Canford Magna Golf Club. During 2013, Australian Youth Olympic Festival, Hall won two gold medals. She had a very promising career after a successful amateur career winning the 2013 British Ladies Amateur Golf Championship.

In July 2014, Hall turned professional. After turning pro she won the Open Generali de Strasbourg on the LET Access Series. In early 2016, she won the Oates Victorian Open on the ALPG Tour. In 2020, although the main tours were suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Hall won two tournaments on the Rose Ladies Series and finished second in the overall standings behind Charley Hull. After the LPGA Tour returned at the end of July, and in September she won for the second time on the tour, and the first time in the United States, at the Cambia Portland Classic, after defeating Ashleigh Buhai in a sudden-death playoff.

“My dad was a plasterer and my mum a hairdresser. He played golf and took me down to the local driving range when I was seven. I then joined the kids’ club and I was the only girl. There were seven levels, and I got to the top level quickly. I was beating all the boys and they used to hate that. They were quite embarrassed.

“I did cross-country and football and I was in the boys’ cricket team. I was the only girl. I was a pretty good batsman because I would swing my bat like a golf club. I used to really whack it. I didn’t know it at the time but it was tough for my parents. They didn’t tell me this until a few years ago. But they always had to sell some things for me to have enough money for golf lessons and tournaments. We lived quite far down south and so dad would drive me for four hours to get to a two-hour lesson and then drive me back – on top of working.

“Golf is one of the most expensive sports you can play. You need to pay a lot to join a club, you need golf clubs, all the equipment, lessons. It was hard and I missed three majors I’d qualified for because of a lack of funds. I was in the top three in the world as an amateur but we couldn’t afford to get to me there. I could only get to the British Open. That was frustrating but I always said I will be fine in the end.”

“We are still boyfriend and girlfriend on the course but we just stay focused on the golf. I think it is lovely that I have someone I know so well and wants the best for me. He truly wants me to play well and I know he is someone I can speak to as I do get a bit stressed at times. I think that is important.”

On the LPGA Tour, it is more important than ever to have that support, given how isolating life can be on tour. Hall told the Telegraph: “I think it is a team effort – people forget sometimes how much we travel and how much time we spend out on the course. I think it can get very lonely if you are on your own.

“That is another reason why it is great to have Harry with me because if I have to travel 18 hours on the plane, he can help me. But it is more than that, it is about having company in the evenings. That is very important so I don’t feel so alone.”

“You have to pay for a visa to get over there, which is a lot of money. Flights are even more expensive nowadays, if there is a week where there isn’t a tournament, you still have to pay for accommodation.

“It is expensive but if you do play well, you do earn a lot more money. It is a big change from the LET [Ladies European Tour].”
