Viola, Illinois – Two Monmouth residents were killed in a tragic accident when their vehicle collided with a house in Viola. According to the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office, the collision happened at 3:58 a.m. on Saturday along U.S. 67, just south of Illinois 17.
When deputies arrived at the location after getting the call, they discovered the tragic aftermath of the incident. The automobile had collided with a house, triggering a fire that unfortunately killed the residents inside.
The victims have been identified as Margarita Meza, 21, and Christian Cortez-Rogel, 22, according to Mercer County Coroner Greg Larson on Tuesday.

Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene, according to the sheriff’s office. Fortunately, no one inside the house suffered injuries during the accident.
