Mary-Lu lost her fight against Stage 4 lung cancer.
She’s blessed with two beautiful children.She is most proud of her two daughters, Kayla and Rachael. Since both of them are independent contractors, they only get payment when they really put in time. They had to choose between working and taking care of their mother, ML, since they are her main carers.

Mary-Lu Zahalan Was nominated for a Juno and  released three albums. She collaborated with legendary producers like David Foster and Humberto Gatica after signing a publishing agreement with Sony Music.

The Third Miracle (with Ed Harris), The Bold Type, Mistletoe Magic, Exhibit A, Twice In A Lifetime, PSI Factor, Top Cops, Ready Or Not, and Missing Treasures are just a few of the films and TV shows in which she has appeared.

‘Mary-Lu has done voice-overs for various products and appeared in hundreds of TV ads. After starring in PumpBoys and Dinettes, for which she won a Dora Award, she became the headliner for a Canadian military tour in the Middle East.
Mary-Lu founded and directs the Commercial Vocal Department in the Music Theatre Performance program at Sheridan College in Oakville.

She also completed this course with highest honors. After earning her Master’s (cum laude) in The Beatles, Popular Music and Society from Liverpool Hope University in the UK, she is now a well regarded Professor of Popular Music Theory and Performance.

Cultural Capital: The Beatles in Canada, Mary-Lu’s dissertation, was published by The Beatle Works (Chicago, IL) in 2011.

Mary-Lu presented No Chance in Hell in 2014, a pop musical by Chris John and Kevin Fox that won Best of Fest and Patron’s Pick at the 2014 Toronto Fringe Festival. The website BroadwayWorldToronto.com also recognized the production by nominating it for “Best Fringe Musical.”

A staged reading of “No Chance in Hell” was co-produced by Mary Lu’s company, High C Productions, in New York City the following year.

Chilina Kennedy and Scott J. Campbell, actors of the Broadway blockbuster “Beautiful,” and Robert Cuccioli, Tony Award nominee and star of “Jekyll & Hyde,” were among the Broadway stars congregated for this reading.

The performance guide Power of Performance: Becoming the Artist You Are Meant to Be, created with Lorraine Lawson, is now available.

Mary-Lu provides acting instruction for both stage and screen. She and Lorraine provide frequent courses on artist development at Toronto’s Lawson Vocal Studios.
