A former professional rugby league player from the 1990s and 2000s, Hazem El Masri (Arabic:??????????) was born on April 1, 1976, in Beirut, Lebanon, and raised in Melbourne, Australia. He was a winger with the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs for his whole club football career, with whom he won the NRL Premiership in 2004. He represented Australia and Lebanon at international level, as well as representing New South Wales at the State of Origin level. El Masri, arguably Australia’s greatest goalkicker of all time, set a new record in 2009 (his final season in the NRL) by becoming the highest-ever point scorer in premiership history. He also became the League’s leading point scorer for the sixth time in the same season for the first time in his career. Aside from that, he became just the sixth player in NRL history to score more than 150 points in a season, having mainly played on the wing but also at fullback throughout his career. El Masri is a self-described devoted Muslim who lives in the United States. He is highly regarded for his work with young people in the community, and in 2002 he was awarded the Ken Stephen Award by the National Rugby League. The award recognises players who, outside of rugby league, make significant contributions to the development of their communities.
