Hockey Captain Eli Palfreeman Cause Of Death Revealed
Matthew Shields Eli Palfreeman, 20, Hockey Captain, Passes Away at Tournament.
The flags at the Ayr, Ontario, community center are at half-staff on Wednesday in honor of a young hockey player who died tragically during a game on Saturday.
The Ayr Centennials released a statement Tuesday expressing their sadness over the loss of their captain, Eli Palfreyman.
After the loss, the team announced, “Our Centennial’s organization and the city of Ayr are in grief.”
Mental health and bereavement specialists have been contacted to help players and staff.
According to the group, “The group stated that Eli received the best possible care from our medical staff, and the ambulatory staff responded quickly.
The medical staff should have more details for us in the next few days.
The tragic outcome of the game was revealed in a tweet from the Town of North Dumfries.
As part of an invitational tournament on Tuesday night, the Ayr Centennials faced off against the Boston Jr. Bruins.
Sue Foxton, mayor of North Dumfries Township, was there.
She said she couldn’t take a breath because she didn’t know if the boy would be okay. The terrible news quickly spread through the community.
Apparently, in a town the size of Ayr, Foxton claims, everybody knows each other.
The loss of a Cen, she said, “is like losing a member of that family.” Losing a young life on the ice is tragic, though.
Foxton said that Palfreyman was an outgoing and well-liked young man who was humbled to be named captain.
Although he was well-liked by his coworkers and teammates, she emphasized, “this is a son.” This son was lost to his parents.
The North Dumfries Community Center had an emergency medical situation on Tuesday, and police from the Waterloo region were dispatched there. Doctors at Cambridge Memorial Hospital reportedly pronounced the victim dead shortly after he was taken there.
Friday has been designated as the new exhibition day for the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League.
