Fort Stewart soldier passes away after in-flight medical emergency, Army officials say

Georgia Army post officials reported the death of a soldier from Fort Stewart on Tuesday after the man suffered a medical emergency on a flight to California for a scheduled combat training exercise.

Fort Stewart spokesman Kevin Larson confirmed Thursday that Pfc. Kaleb H. Franklin had passed away at a hospital in Amarillo, Texas, where the plane had made an emergency landing en route to California. When Franklin died, he was 26.

On Thursday, Larson said that the official cause of Franklin’s death had not been determined, and it remained unclear what had prompted his medical emergency.

First-Class, Private Cabin The 26-year-old soldier, Kaleb H. Franklin, was on his way to a training exercise at the National Training Center at Fort Irwin, California. A health problem first manifested itself in the 26-year-old at that point.

According to a press release from Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield, “unit medical personnel began resuscitation as the pilots took an emergency diversion to Amarillo, Texas.”

Franklin was a member of the 3rd Infantry Division’s 9th Brigade Engineer Battalion and the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team.

The Army has reportedly made contact with Franklin’s family and is doing what it can to help them cope with this terrible loss.
