Kyle Ellington, the Oakland Athletics’ beloved director of diversity, inclusion, and belonging passed away on January 24, 2023, the team reported.

Sadly, no cause of death was disclosed.

Since 1901, the Oakland Athletics, more commonly referred to as the A’s in the United States, have played all of their home games in Oakland, California.

Being based in Oakland for more than a century has earned the team tremendous respect from the neighborhood it serves. By putting money into diversity and inclusion initiatives throughout his time at the organization, Kyle Ellington played a crucial part in expanding the A’s appeal to communities outside of baseball teams.

His presence will be much missed, and A’s management will remember all of those who cherished him at this trying time.
