His name, Leonardo, was given to him by his mother as a consequence of a ‘kick’ he gave her when she was standing in front of a Leonardo Da Vinci picture at an Italian museum.
He is the son of George DiCaprio, an Italian-American comic-book distributor, and Irmalin Idenbirkin, who divorced when Leo was a year old.
Leo’s early acting career was never simple since he was often rejected by agents who thought his name sounded too foreign and advised him to alter his name to Lenny Williams.
