Elizabeth Lynne Cheney is an American attorney and politician who has been the U.S. representative for Wyoming’s at-large congressional district since 2017. She chaired the House Republican Conference, the third-highest position in the House Republican leadership, from 2019 to 2021.

She has been in the news lately as several reports indicate she is reaching out to Democrats after losing major backing from her Republican base heading into the Wyoming primaries. She has also been brought to the limelight as the hearings for the Jan. 6 riots continue.

Liz Cheney is the daughter of the former Vice President Dick Cheney. He has rarely been outspoken about his daughters political career but is reported to have cautioned her about on January 6 as tensions between her and several high ranking Republican officials and supporters were at their breaking point.

The congresswoman was subsequently ejected from the Republican leadership after her opposition of Trump’s election allegations. She is unlikely to progress through the ranks and attain the levels her dad reached during his time in the party.
