Bethany “Beth” Smith (née Sanchez) is one of the five main characters of Rick and Morty. She is the daughter of Rick Sanchez and Mrs. Sanchez / Diane Sanchez, the wife of Jerry Smith, and the mother of Summer Smith and the deceased Morty Smith.

As a result of her father’s disappearance, Beth has come to fixate on exceptionalism and intelligence, and has a fear of abandonment, resulting in a deep-seated desire to keep her father in her life. As a result, she is generally willing to put up with Rick – and his needs without sarcasm or argument – rationalizing his experiments and behavior.

We don’t know for certain that Rick’s original daughter Beth died before he turned 35. But we do know it’s likely, since Rick and Birdperson are very close and this is what Birdperson believes to be true. In fact, it was Birdperson who told Morty that wubba lubba dub dub means “I am in great pain; please help me.”

Rick’s Father (known only as Mr. Sanchez) was the father of Rick Sanchez, the father-in-law of Mrs. Sanchez/Diane Sanchez, the paternal grandfather of Beth Smith, and the maternal great-grandfather of Summer Smith and Morty Smith, his name is unknown and he has never been seen in the show. He was mentioned in the episode Auto Erotic Assimilation.
