Isabela Merced was a Judy Garland fan, so her parents asked her if she wanted to audition for a local production of The Wizard of Oz to distract her from her grief.

She agreed and was cast in the role of a Munchkin. She made her debut in the entertainment industry in 2013 in the television series, “Growing Up Fisher.”

In an interview with HOLA! USA, Isabela Merced expressed how her mother, Katherine, is the one who showed her the importance of her culture and heritage.

“I have to thank my mom because she’s the one who made me value my roots and where I come from,” she explained.

“I grew up in Ohio, and in school, they made fun of my accent. I wanted to stop speaking Spanish, so my mom sent me to Peru to go to school for a semester, and that’s where I learned to value my roots.”

In addition to acting, Merced is also a talented singer and songwriter. She has released several singles, including “Papi” and “Don’t Go,” which have received critical acclaim and have helped her gain recognition in the music industry.
