Authorities have confirmed that junior Jacob Brown died when his car struck a tree in Maumee on Sunday evening. The day before his team’s playoff game, on Tuesday, he will be remembered.According to police, the incident happened just before 9 p.m. when the car, which was “moving at a high rate of speed,” left the road near Key and West Streets and struck a tree. Jacob Brown, a student at the high school and a player of the Crusaders’ boys soccer team, has been identified as the victim, according to Canton Central Catholic Principal David Oates, who spoke to WKYC.On Monday afternoon, Oates issued the following statement:
In the OHSAA Division III boys soccer tournament’s opening round, Jacob and his team were slated to host Loudonville. Instead, that game has been rescheduled for Tuesday at 6 p.m., and before kickoff, Jacob and his family will be remembered. Community people are invited to attend and wear white.“Our community is very sad to have to share the news of the loss of Jacob. Central Catholic is a small, close-knit community and his loss will be felt deeply by our Crusader family. Students, staff and our families have been informed of his passing. We have our guidance counselors, campus minister, and President Father Donald King on hand to talk and pray with any student, staff member or family member who needs them. Please keep Jacob and his family in your prayers.”
