The team lacked a point guard and it was her father who suggested Jaden Newman should be given a try for that role. She was always very enthusiast about the sport growing up and Jamie knew his daughter had the potential to do well in the team. Initially, there were many who were skeptical about the move but after her first match, the opinions about her ability and the decision to play her in the team changed instantly.As a fifth grader when she joined the team, Newman averaged 15 points per game, which improved remarkably in the next two years. She doubled her point tally per game in her sixth and seventh grades. She averaged almost 46 points per game in her eighth grade and also scored a national record of 70 points in one single game. Newman became the youngest female basketball player to reach the 1000-point mark at a varsity prep level. She has her heart set out to represent the Connecticut Huskies women's basketball team as almost all her idols represented the UConn’s women’s basketball team.Jaden and her brother Julian Newman, who is also a basketball player, practice together. The duo practices over 500 shots every day and work on their shooting skills from various angles on the court. Newman has a very high percentage of converting her shoots compared to her peers but she also excels as a team player.
