In a shocking turn of events, we mourn the unexpected passing of John Michaels, a beloved figure in our community, and a legendary radio broadcaster at KDBR. John Michaels passed away due to a heart attack, leaving his friends, family, and the entire community in deep sorrow.
The news of his untimely departure was shared on social media by those who held him dear:
“I have no words, John Michaels Fleming… My Friend, My Mentor, My Hero. A Legendary Broadcaster. John loved his wife Marie, his beautiful daughters, and grandsons more than anything. He loved his community. He loved the Bear Nation. I am happy I have so many photos and videos, so many memories. Oh, we had fun, we also had so much happy and some tears… I always loved it when Johnny broke out his dance moves. I love you, Johnny Michaels… I know you are at peace and with God. It’s the end of an era. Flathead Valley Radio will never be the same. — with John Michaels Fleming.”
Another friend shared a touching moment they had with John:
“John Michaels… my bro. When you interviewed me for American Ninja Warrior back in April this year on the Bear Morning Country Club, you and I had a great moment alone after the interview: You told me how much God shifted your faith back in 2019 when you and I spent so much time together in the ICU during Marie’s stay. I was the chaplain for Kalispell Regional Medical Center (Logan Health now) and we prayed for your beautiful bride. Over and over again. You reached out to me some months later and said it was a MIRACLE and thanked me for standing with you as Men of God. You told me at the radio interview that ‘you might be an American Ninja Warrior to everyone else, but you’ll always be MY chaplain to me’. I still am bro. And always will be. And your buff workout buddy that talked about ‘God and our Pipes (biceps)’. I love you man. Sorry I didn’t say it more often. You will always be that radio station extraordinaire. Regarding our guns , I will be working out with you forever one day bro. No pain. No end. And muscles the size of the Apostle Peter. Lol!! PS: if your amazing daughter Mandie or beautiful wife Marie need me, my cell is (406) 407-8222 for prayer, encouragement, and fun stories to honor you.”
And yet another admirer expressed their deep sorrow:

“Truly heartbreaking. John was the epitome of how people should care and treat others. He never seemed to have bad days. Always happy, smiling, and laughing. He was humble. I would tell him he was the greatest broadcaster I’ve ever met; he shook it off with humility. He didn’t care for that, it wasn’t about awards (although he deserved all of them); it was about making a difference. I loved spending every second I could with him. I will miss my friend, the one and only, Magic John Michaels.”
Our heartfelt condolences go out to John Michaels’ family and friends who are grappling with the loss of such an intelligent, compassionate, and extraordinary individual.
