The body of a man from Austin, Texas named John Ryan Kern was discovered late on Sunday night in a smoldering house in Travis County. Zachary Salinas, his roommate, was detained and accused with murder.

According to authorities, Zak Salinas fatally stabbed Kern, 36, and then set fire to the Austin house to destroy any traces of the crime.

Around 11 p.m. on Sunday, emergency personnel were called to a building fire at 9003 Meridian Oak Lane in Austin. When they got there, they discovered Kern inside the house with what appeared to be knife wounds.

Later, due to injuries from stab wounds, Kern was declared deceased.

Investigation results showed that Salinas fatally stabbed Kern before attempting to set the house on fire to eliminate evidence.

Salinas was apprehended after being found nearby. Murder, arson, and tampering with evidence are the charges against him.
