A year ago today, a man kidnapped and killed his ex-girlfriend, according to the authorities.

The kidnapping and murder of a woman by her ex-boyfriend overnight happened exactly one year ago to the day, according to Clayton County authorities.

Khaliyah Jones, who works at the Wingstop in Fayetteville on Sunday night, is said to have been kidnapped by Cameron Hopkins. According to the police, Hopkins chased Jones through Fayette and Clayton counties before shooting and killing him in front of Lovejoy High School.

Hopkins is accused of killing Jones with malice, kidnapping someone, and other crimes.

An earlier kidnapping event involving the former couple that occurred one year ago today, according to authorities, was covered by Channel 2 Action News.

On July 16, 2022, at 6:15 p.m. near the Walmart off Tara Blvd., Hopkins allegedly approached Jones’ car brandishing a gun, according to Lovejoy police. Hopkins allegedly broke the window after dragging her out of the vehicle and into his own before speeding away, according to the police.

Later, the automobile came to a stop somewhere around Macon, and Jones hopped out to run to a neighbouring store for assistance. Hopkins was accused by the police of kidnapping, severe assault, making terroristic threats, and causing criminal property damage.
