Laura began her career in journalism while she was a freshman at California State University, Fullerton. She wrote for the Daily Titan and by her sophomore year, she was a news editor. She majored in Political Science as she wanted to become an expert in what she covered.

She was accepted into a Washington, D.C. journalism program as a junior. This placed her in an internship with Roll Call, an established Capitol Hill newspaper. By the time she graduated she had interned at The Orange County Register for more than a year and had completed a summer internship at The Oregonian.

Immediately after graduation, she landed a fellowship in D.C. at the trade publication Environment & Energy Publishing. In 2020, she was selected as “Alum of the Year” by the Department of Politics, Administration and Justice.

In October 2013, she landed her first time full-time job as an energy and environment reporter for The Hill newspaper. From the Hill, she joined Huffington Post as one of their lead congressional reporters, covering both the House and Senate.

In October 2017, she joined Washington Examiner as a political reporter. While there, she proposed a new beat for the Examiner covering Democrats in Congress and the party’s strategy heading into 2018 and 2020.

I December 2018, she joined POLITICO as a national political reporter, covering the presidential election, race and demographics. In January 2021 she became POLITICO White House Correspondent. While at POLITICO, as a senior reporter, she helped cover demographics and ensure that typically forgotten voters, including African Americans and Latinos.
