Manti Malietau Louis Te’o was born on January 26, 1991, in Hawaii, United States. Te’o was selected in the second round of the NFL Draft 2013 by the San Diego Chargers.

Te’o told many media that his grandmother and girlfriend died on September 11, 2012.

Te’o said that his girlfriend was a student of Stanford University, Lennay Kekua and she was injured in a car accident and was discovered during her treatment to have leukemia.

After receiving an anonymous email tip in January 2013, reporters of the sports blog Deadspin investigated Kekua’s identity.

On January 16, they published an article that Kekua did not exist and confirmed that pictures of Kekua that had been used in the media were actually of Diane O’Meara.

 After much other news, Te’o agreed to a January 18 interview with a sports journalist in which he confirmed she is inaccurate. Te’o explained he had lied to his father and others about meeting her in person.

He explained that Tuiasosopo represented herself as Lennay Kekua’s cousin. Te’o said Tuiasosopo confessed to him on January 16; she was behind the hoax.

It confirmed that Kekua did not exist on 2013. The former NFL player Reagan Maui’s said he twice met someone claiming to be Kekua. They introduced by Tuiasosopo, whom he believed to be Kekua’s cousin.
