Authorities said on Monday that a man who was discovered dead in the Bluegrass Fish and Wildlife Area last week has been identified, and a homicide investigation is now being conducted into his death.

A bystander discovered Manuel Eduardo Heaton, 27, of Evansville, dead in northwest Warrick County early on Saturday.

He is currently being looked into as a possible homicide. The Warrick County Sheriff’s Office investigators and the Law Enforcement Division of the Indiana Department of Natural Resources are working together on this investigation.

At around 7:30 on Saturday morning, a bystander in the vicinity of St. Johns Road and Kansas Road, close to the Scaup Pit, discovered Heaton’s remains.

A bystander discovered the body at around 7:30 in the morning and notified authorities right away.

The body has been put into the custody of the Warrick County Coroner’s Office, and an autopsy will be planned. The victim’s identity is being kept a secret until the family has been informed.
