Maria Thattil is putting her health first in her swimsuit. The Australian beauty queen looked incredible in a bathing suit in one of her latest social media posts, discussing her health. "Could really go a morning swim in paradise 🍇🏝️ I woke up feeling a bit better today, still not 100% but definitely on the mend!" she captioned the Instagram post. Maria starts her day with one of three drinks, "dependent on mood of the morning," she tells Women's Agenda, "a hot glass of water with a dash of fresh lemon and ginger, a steaming cup of matcha green tea or a strong oat latte."

"My philosophy for movement has evolved over the years," Maria confesses to Women's Agenda. "I view exercise as a way to FEEL fit and strong, as opposed to LOOKING a certain way … a philosophy I would teach to my younger self. As a non-sporty child growing up, I used to perceive myself as awkward and inactive – but as a woman, I discovered that exercise and fitness is highly personal and you just have to find the right medium."

"Lagree lover here, so absolutely a 45-minute session on the Megaformer. I love balancing the instruction from the trainer with my own thoughts as I will myself through some really strong burns and tough moves," Maria tells Women's Agenda about her favorite Pilates-based workout. She adds that she attends three to four classes a week.

"Being an ambivert with such a fast-paced career and lifestyle, making time to unwind and recharge is essential to my well-being," she tells Mamamia about the importance of self-care. "I often take solo days where I don't leave my apartment or attend social gatherings and just laze on the couch with Netflix, food and just relax. I'm trying to make time for this regularly after the craziness of the last 12 months as they have trained my brain to be in go-mode and feel guilt when I do slow down," she adds. "Rest isn't something to feel guilty for and is as essential as the items on your to-do list."

"Nature and reading are also hugely invigorating and recharging for me, so I will make time to switch off socials and wander in nature like in the local Botanic Gardens with my read of the moment (currently devouring Untamed by Glennon Doyle)," she told Mamamia. One Harvard study published in Social Science & Medicine found that people who read books regularly had a 20% lower risk of dying over the next 12 years compared with people who weren't readers or who read periodicals. 

In her latest post, Maria stresses the importance of prioritizing your health. "3 days ago I had invasive tests & an iron infusion for persisting gut issues & anemia. I've been pretty unwell after the procedure. I don't ever want to feel like this again, and it's made me think about how I need to prioritize my diet and stress management to avoid being in this situation at all. And positively, I'm excited about finding balance. I'm in for a pretty crazy couple of months – but just as I schedule in & say yes to work, I want to be as diligent when it comes to doing the same for organizing healthy meals and rest," she captioned the photo.
