Subsequently, the GMC collided with the front of the Subaru, leading to the van overturning. Mark A. Fields, the 63-year-old driver of the van from Independence, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Subaru driver, a 54-year-old Pleasant Hill man, and two passengers from that vehicle were transported to Centerpoint Medical Center with serious injuries. The Nissan driver was taken to Research Medical Center with serious injuries. The cause of the crash is currently under investigation.
