When she was younger, "I just wanted to change who I was. I wanted to be somebody else. I just didn't like who I was. I just decided that, you know, why do I have this hair? Or why do I have this, these lips? So why do I have this body? Why can't I just look like everyone else? And just be a part? And I didn't want to stand out. I wanted to fit in." One worry? "I used to never put on the light in my bathroom. My bathroom would be dark because I didn't wanna look at my skin," she told Pinkvilla.
Gupta eventually found strength in her feelings. "If you lose touch of humility in your life, everything can go south," she told Pinkvilla. On the other hand, "Sometimes when you think that your vulnerability is a weakness, it's actually your strength."
"I was playing professional tennis. Of course it would play on my mind. Am I doing the right thing for my skin? Will I start looking a certain way? Uh, and at the same time, will I just become so muscular or just become so sort of heavy that, you know, I don't have any femininity left in my body. All of those thoughts came to my mind, but I never wanted to give up my sport because of it," she told Pinkvilla. She finally gave it up to look after her mental health.
"In my head, being authentic and being yourself is the most powerful thing a person can do. It is also very liberating. But at the same time, when you're sitting in a room full of people sometimes, they might not appreciate that, might take it for granted or they might look at you and not take you seriously, and think you are a frivolous person or judge you. Yes, people can judge you for the emotions you have. I am a very emotional person myself. I've spent my whole life taking decisions based on my gut and my emotions," she said, according to HealthShots.
"Self-love is something that happens when you're not looking. It's not one of those things that you decide, 'Okay, I am going to love myself today', and it will happen tomorrow. It's a way of life, it's a course correction where you say to yourself, 'Each time I lose track of why I love myself, I have to remind myself,'" she told HealthShots.
