Julius Pegues is the first black basketball player at Pitt. He was born in 1935 to his parents whose identity hasn’t been made known to the general public.

Julius Pegues was from a family of nine siblings and he happens to be the last born of his parents.

He served in the United States Air Force as a weather forecaster and later became an advisor to the Federal Aviation Administration has died at age 86 on April 2, 2022, following a battle with cancer.

Julius was a married man with three children – a son and two daughters.
