Marcus Reynolds Respected NBA official and 20-year veteran Tony Brown passed away on Thursday after a valiant battle with pancreatic cancer.
Age-wise, he was 55.
This afternoon, the NBA broke the devastating news.
Referee Tony Brown was revered for his work and served as an example to his fellow NBA officials. Tony’s dedication, determination, and passion made him such a highly respected official for 20 years, and he showed all of those qualities after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer early last year and returning to work this past season at the NBA Replay Center “Adam Silver, the commissioner, has made this statement.
“We at the NBA would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to Tony’s wife Tina, their children Bailey, Basile, and Baylen, and all of the NBA referees who grieve his loss.
After officiating 1,110 regular season games and 35 playoff games in the NBA, Brown was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer in 2021.
Tina, Tony’s wife, issued a statement in which she expressed gratitude for the outpouring of love and support they had received.
Through this process of growing in resilience, acceptance, and peace, we have been buoyed by the constant outpouring of love and support we have received “Author Tina Brown penned this.
We hope you’ll share that sentiment with us as we prepare to honor Tony’s life. Our deepest gratitude goes out to our entire community of loved ones, both old and new. The depth of your affection for me is unfathomable.”
The Brown family has asked for any benefactors to contribute to the Clark Atlanta University Tony Brown Basketball Scholarship Fund.
