Sophia Aguilar Jason Kuti Richmond, who was born close to Buffalo, New York, died peacefully on November 23, 2022.
His wife Laura M. Kuti, his kids Evan P. and Desmond J. Kuti, his devoted parents John P. and Diane L. Kuti, and his brothers Andrew R. and David M. Kuti survive him. Two nieces and two nephews also survive him. Following the events of September 11, he participated in the US Army and completed a tour in Iraq after graduating from L.C. Bird High School in Chesterfield, Virginia. He then attended the University of Virginia Tech. He continued on to work for the Richmond City Police Department for 19 years, spending the most of that time as a patrolman with the H.O.P.E.
For many of his years with Richmond City Police, he worked in that squad with his colleague and best friend, Matt McHugh. He participated in the Richmond City Police’s Crowd Management Team as well. Golf, woodworking, supporting the Buffalo Bills, watching movies, and most of all, spending time with and taking care of his two children, Evan and Desmond, were some of his passions. He was always prepared with a witty remark and genuinely valued his friends and family in the police department. He relished the time spent unwinding with family and friends. He was quick to pick things up and always had a useful explanation to offer.
He has a passion for music and encouraged his son Evan to keep playing the trombone. He was a member of the local HOA board, participated in the Richmond Police Athletic League Summer Camp and Basketball League, and trained to officiate for his kids’ swim team. Even though Jason loved life, his impact on people, both young and old, will live on in his incredible legacy. On December 7, 2022, at 10 a.m., Beulah United Methodist Church in North Chesterfield will host a memorial ceremony.
