Early Life & Education

Olawale Wale Edun, the appointed Nigerian finance minister, was born in Ogun State, Nigeria, on June 25, 1962. His father, Chief Adebayo Edun, held prominence as a businessman and politician, while his mother, Alhaja Abibat Edun, dedicated herself to homemaking. His family included a brother and a sister, enriching his upbringing with diverse dynamics.

His influence extended beyond the bank, as he directed Capital Market and Financial Advisory operations for esteemed global corporations’ local affiliates and subsidiaries.

Venturing across the Atlantic to New York, Olawale Wale Edun gained invaluable experience with Lehman Brothers and Chase Manhattan Capital Markets Corporation, deepening his global financial understanding. Prior to this, he had already etched his mark at Chase Merchant Bank in Lagos from 1980 to 1986.

The World Bank/IFC beckoned in Washington, DC, where Olawale Wale Edun was welcomed through the prestigious Young Professionals program, an entry into the echelons of international finance.

Taking the helm in March 2008 at Chapel Hill Denham Group, Olawale Wale Edun‘s leadership guided the ship with finesse. Earlier, during a brief hiatus from Nigeria, he co-founded and nurtured Investment Banking & Trust Company Limited.

Among his achievements, the establishment of Denham Management Limited in 1994 shines, a testament to his prowess.

In his directorial roles, he stands as a cornerstone in private enterprises. At its zenith, Olawale Wale Edun assumes the honored position of Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Ogoni Trust Fund.
