Peter Meijer is a 2006 graduate of East Grand Rapids High School. 

He attended the United States Military Academy at West Point for a year before transferring to Columbia University in 2008, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in cultural anthropology in 2012. He campaigned for the reinstatement of the Reserve Officers’  Training Corps on campus at Columbia.

He has three children from his first marriage and is now married to Liesel Litzenburger, a writer and novelist.

He also volunteered as an emergency medical technician for Columbia University’s emergency services. 

Meijer served in the United States Army Reserve from 2008 to 2016 and was deployed to Iraq as an intelligence advisor in 2010 and 2011.

Meijer worked as a conflict analyst for an international NGO from 2013 to 2015. From April 2018 through January 2019, he worked as an analyst for Olympia Development of Michigan, a subsidiary of Ilitch Holdings.

During this period, Meijer was also involved with veteran programs such as Project Rubicon, served on the advisory board of the With Honor super political action committee, and helped with urban redevelopment projects around Michigan.
