Ronald Dion DeSantis is an American politician and attorney serving as the 46th governor of Florida since 2019.

A member of the Republican Party, Ron DeSantis represented Florida’s 6th congressional district in the United States House of Representatives from 2013 to 2018.

Ron DeSantis was first elected to Congress in 2012 and was reelected in 2014 and 2016. Ron DeSantis briefly ran for U.S. Senate in 2016, but withdrew his candidature when incumbent senator Marco Rubio sought reelection.

Ron DeSantis was known as an ally of President Donald Trump. Ron DeSantis frequently criticized Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.

Ron DeSantis won the Republican primary for Florida’s gubernatorial election on August 28, 2018.

However, the close results of the general election between Ron DeSantis and the Democratic nominee, Tallahassee mayor Andrew Gillum, triggered a machine recount, with DeSantis certified as the winner on November 20.
