Student Death at VCU, MCV According to an email sent by VCU President Michael Rao to the student body on Friday, May 5, 2023, Shawn Soares was the man who died from his wounds on West Main Street in the center of Richmond on Thursday night.

Shawn was killed in an automobile accident on Thursday night close to the 300 block of West Main St. The Richmond Police Department’s crash investigation team is looking into it. Soares was seeking a Master’s in Business Administration, per his social media postings.

“Shawn’s passing is unfortunate and upsetting. Michael Rao, the president of VCU, said on Friday, “I knew Shawn and collaborated with him on many subjects. “He was a tremendously uplifting force in our world who dedicated his life to improving everyone’s quality of life. He was among the finest students I have ever encountered.

Soares belonged to the Virginia Young Democrats as well. Shawn, according to that organization, “is an irreplaceable member of our community and we all will continue to honor and live up to his memory.”

Soares was struck by a car while he was walking on the sidewalk.

The collision occurred as two automobiles were traveling westbound on West Main Street, according to the Richmond Police Department’s statement on Friday afternoon.
