Soumaya Domit Gemayel is a Lebanese-Mexican socialite and philanthropist best known as the wife of popular Mexican business magnate, Carlos Slim Helú.

Soumaya Domit Gemayel was born in 1948 in Mexico City, Mexico, to parents, Antonio Domit Dib (Lebanese immigrant businessman) and Lily Gemayel Domit. She is of Lebanese ethnicity.

Soumaya was raised alongside four siblings. Sadly, she lost her mother in 1998, a year before her own death. She grew up in the Chapultepec-Polanco subdivision of Mexico City and with regards to her educational background, Soumaya attended the ‘Asunción School’.

Soumaya Domit Gemayel shot to prominence following her marriage to renowned business mogul, Carlos Slim Helú. The couple first met in 1964, when he was 24 years old and she was only a teenager. They later got married in 1966.

Soumaya Domit Gemayel shares six children with her husband. She had three sons, Carlos Slim Domit, Patrick and Marco Antonio as well as daughters, Soumaya, Vanessa and Johanna.

Soumaya Domit Gemayel’s happy life ended in 1999 after she died from kidney problems at the age of 51. She had earlier suffered from kidney failure and had a kidney transplant from her mother at the age of 30.
