Steve Mackey, the bassist for Pulp, unexpectedly passed away at age 56 after ‘fighting with all his power and desire’ for the past three months in the hospital.

The band confirmed the musician’s passing on Thursday morning as his devastated wife Katie Grand revealed he has been struggling with his health behind closed doors.

Five months after Steve said he wouldn’t be participating in Pulp’s reunion, the news has shocked fans.

At the time of death, Steve Mackey is said to have an estimated net worth of about $2 million.

Along with the other members of Pulp, he received an Ivor Novello Award in 2017 for Outstanding Song Collection from Peter Saville, who created record sleeves for Joy Division, New Order, and Pulp.

The Minsheng Art Museum Shanghai, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and the Louvre in France are just a few of the commercial projects that Mackey has worked on alongside John Gosling (previously of Psychic TV) as a music director and sound designer.
