She became a household name for portraying the character Karen Sammler in the television series ‘Once and Again’, which she continued for three years. Her role as Dr. Lenara Kahn in ‘Star Trek: Deep Space Nine’ episode ‘Rejoined’ kindled controversy as she took part in one of television's first same-sex kisses.
