When Mangu Khan ordered Hulagu Khan, grandson of Genghis Khan, to expand the Mongol empire, Hulagu didn’t disappoint him. After capturing north central Iran, he killed Al-Musta'sim, destroyed Baghdad, and conquered Syria, but was subdued by the Egyptians. Surprisingly, it is believed he had converted to Buddhism before death.
