Daniil Sergeyevich Medvedev (born February 11, 1996) is a Russian tennis player. The Association of Tennis Professionals has him ranked first in the world (ATP). He has 14 ATP Tour singles titles to his name, including the 2021 US Open and the 2020 ATP Finals.

Medvedev defeated then-world No. 1 Novak Djokovic in the final of the former to deny him the Grand Slam. In the latter, he became the first and only player in history to defeat the world’s top three ranked players en route to the year-end championship title.

Medvedev was born in Moscow, the son of Sergey and Olga Medvedeva. Daniil’s father, a computer engineer, ran his own building materials sales business from the mid-1980s to the early 2010s.

It is intriguing that Daniil Medvedev could have been French rather than Russian if he had been born a month later. In an earlier interview, he stated that the decision to relocate to France was made by his parents. However, he was born in Moscow before they could relocate.

Although Medvedev admitted that Russia would always be his home, he stated that he would prefer to live in France. Medvedev emphasised that living in France aided his development as a tennis player. Aside from that, he is also fluent in French.
