In the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft, the 49ers selected him out of South Carolina’s football program. He was chosen for the Pro Bowl in 2021 and earned a spot on the first team of All-Pros. Samuel played in five games overall, starting three of them despite recurring ailments. He hurt his hamstring against North Carolina in the first game of the year. In his sophomore year, Samuel participated in 10 games and led the team with 59 receptions for 783 yards. He also ran 15 times for 98 yards and six touchdowns.
