Who are Kyrgios Parents? Meet Giorgos and Norlaila ‘Nill’ Kyrgios
Sophia Aguilar NICK KYRGIOS has earned a staggering amount of money during his intriguing tennis career – and he’s lost a lot of it too.
The controversial Australian star is well known for his short temper and raging outbursts on the court.
This has led to a substantial amount of fines over the years, recently demonstrated in his third round Wimbledon clash with Stefanos Tsitsipas.
Following his Wimbledon victory against Stefanos Tsitsipas, Nick Kyrgios has his greatest opportunity to go to the finals of a Grand Slam event since his barnstorming debut in 2014. Kyrgios defeated the No. 4 seed with outstanding tennis, but as is frequently the case with Nick, his provocative behavior overshadowed his on-court talent.
The defeated Stefanos labeled Nick a bully and wicked, prompting the Australian to respond, “I would be quite furious if I lost to someone two weeks in a row, too.” Maybe he should figure out how to beat me a couple more times before moving on.”
Nick’s father is Greek, and his mother descends from Malaysian royalty
Nick Kyrgios was born in Canberra, Australia, on April 27, 1995, to Giorgos and Norlaila ‘Nill’ Kyrgios. Christos and Halimah, his two elder siblings, raised him.
Giorgos, Kyrgios’s father, is Greek, and Nill is sprung from Malaysian nobility. Norlaila was born into a royal family in the Malaysian state of Pahang, earning her the title Tengku of Pahang, or Princess of Pahang.
She abandoned her title after going to Australia with her mother in her twenties. Giorgos, a house painter, and Norlaila, a computer engineer, met and married in Australia.
Norlaila shared Instagram images of herself and Giorgos on their 33rd wedding anniversary in April 2021. Nill remarked, “Feeling blessed – 33 years married to this young fella.”
Nill spoke to the Malaysian press on Nick’s bond with her Malaysian family after Nick defeated Rafael Nadal at Wimbledon in 2014:
“Nick is quite close to his Malaysian relatives, whom he has visited on several occasions… When we were in Malaysia last, he even played tennis in Cameron Highlands. Kyrgios’ entire family is extremely close to mine.”
Later that year, Norlaila invited her family to see Nick compete in the Malaysian Open. The Sydney Morning Herald quoted Nick as saying:
“It’ll be fantastic to return to my mother’s roots.” I’ve visited Malaysia a few times to see family… I don’t know anything about my mother’s past. But I’m hoping people accept me over there as well.”
Nick’s family didn’t see him often.
